Rohida, also known as Vichitragad, is a compact fort above Bajarwadi near Bhor. The climb is short, the crowds are thin, and the top looks across to Raireshwar, Purandar and the Mahabaleshwar range. It is one of the easiest proper forts to reach from Pune by bus.
Our trips to Rohida Fort
We have been once. Photos from the day:
1 photoHow to reach Rohida Fort from Pune
By car or bike: Drive the Pune–Satara highway to Kapurhol, turn off to Bhor and continue about 7 km to Bajarwadi. The trail starts near the village school.
By bus or train: Take an ST bus from Swargate to Bhor. From Bhor ST stand, take a local bus or a shared jeep to Bajarwadi.
The trail
The trail leaves Bajarwadi near the school and climbs steadily on a clear path to the first gateway. It is steep in short sections but not technical.
Inside, a second and third gateway lead to the top, where you can walk the walls between the bastions.
What you will see
- Carved gateways, including a Ganesh carving
- Rock-cut water cisterns
- The Rohidmalla temple
- Views of Raireshwar, Kenjalgad and Purandar
Food and water
There are small shops in Bajarwadi but nothing on the fort. Carry at least a litre each. Do not drink from the cisterns without treating the water.
Is it right for me?
Yes. It is about an hour of steady uphill walking, with no tricky sections.
Best time to go: Monsoon brings mist and strong wind on top; post-monsoon (October–November) is green and clear. Summer is hot by late morning.
Good to know
- The top is very windy in the monsoon; carry a windproof layer.
- Start early in summer; the slopes have little shade.
- Check the last bus from Bhor before you set off.
- The cisterns are still used; keep them clean and do not wash or swim in them.
