Before you go: Swimming in the Devkund pool is prohibited: it is deep, with strong currents, and people have drowned. The forest department and the village have closed the trail in peak monsoon in past years, The village charges an entry fee and a local guide is compulsory. Check the current rules before you go.

Devkund is a deep plunge pool at the bottom of a tall waterfall, reached by a mostly flat walk through forest and along a river from Bhira village. The pool has drowned visitors, so swimming is prohibited, and the trail is restricted at the height of the monsoon.

How to reach Devkund Waterfall from Pune

By car or bike: Drive through Paud and Mulshi, over Tamhini ghat and turn off to Bhira. Parking is near the village.

By bus or train: Not practical as a day trip. Go with a group or hire a vehicle.

The trail

From Bhira the trail follows the river through forest and fields, with a few stream crossings. It is mostly flat.

Stream crossings can rise quickly after rain. Turn back if the water is above your knees or fast.

What you will see

  • A tall waterfall into a clear blue-green pool
  • The forest and river walk from Bhira
  • The Tamhini ghat drive on the way

Food and water

Villagers in Bhira serve meals. Carry a litre each for the walk.

Is it right for me?

Yes. The walk is mostly flat, about 9–10 km there and back.

Best time to go: September to January, when the stream crossings are manageable. Peak monsoon brings closures and high water.

Good to know

  • Do not swim or enter the pool.
  • Budget for the entry fee and the compulsory local guide.
  • Check the trail is open; it has closed in peak monsoon.
  • Wear shoes you can get wet with good grip.
  • Follow the village rules and take every wrapper and bottle back out.
